Energy Efficient Central Air Conditioning System

Always have a look at the ratings as they denote the efficiency of the unit. The higher the rating, the lower is the cost for providing the specified amount of cooling.

Previously the least allowed SEER rating for new central air conditioning systems was 10, but with effect from January, 2006, it will be 13. The high performance systems have the ratings from 15 to 17. Always remember to check for this while purchasing an air conditioner. The models which have a SEER of 10 are labeled as "High efficiency", “Super-high efficiency” systems are rated 11 and 12, and models which are rated above 12 are “Ultra high efficient”

The air conditioning systems may comprise of a lot of energy saving features to receive high ratings: particularly larger coil for effective transfer of warmth and varying speed fan motor and blower for reduced electric consumption. The York Stellar Ultra comprises of twin compressors which work in coordination when higher cooling efficiency is required, else only one compressor is in use. These, in combination to a variable-speed motor get a rating of 16.7

To the point control offered by programmed thermostats are also helpful. Another power-saving feature is a fan which operates only until the compressor is turned off to make use of the resultant air. Also some systems indicate the need to change filters, thus ensuring timely care and enhanced efficiency.

Is an ultra high efficient air conditioning system needed for you? It is not really necessary and the requirement may vary based on climatic conditions. If you are residing in a climate which needs less cooling, it isn’t worth the money you spend over it.

Even if your house lacks proper insulation, you will not benefit from using such high efficiency models. In contrast, where the system has to be used very often, with time, the high efficiency system would cover its own cost by saving in energy used.

One important thing to be noted about the replacement of an old air conditioner component: you must always be careful to change the indoor evaporator and the outdoor condensing unit. If you change only the condensing system, you will lose on the benefits of a highly efficient unit.
