How to paint Concrete Floors

1. In case of interior flooring, it is always suggested to check for any water accumulating holes and the dampness of the floor. If this is the case, approaching a qualified contractor to handle this issue, it might be a time taking process as you will have to wait for the floors to be dry before you paint them.

2. If the room has any available signs of grease over them, clean the floors first, as the paint would not stick to the greasy surface. To do so, spreading cat litter over the spot is suggested as the oily substance will be absorbed by it. After doing so, scrubbing with Goof Off is required. This would follow mixing TSP in a bucket and re-mopping of the floor. Don’t forget to rinse a number of times until your mop is clean. It might not be easy!!! You will have to be patient for at least three days for the floor to dry, before applying any paint to it.

3. For any other residual substances like glue or previous paint, use a hand-sander and 80-grit sandpaper for sanding the floor. Once done, use a vacuum cleaner and mop with a tack cloth, which is easily available at hardware and home-improving shops.

4. Any visible cracks or holes should be repaired with Cement Fixall and be allowed to be dried.

5. You can now start painting the floor. Apply two coating of Kilz primer and stain blocker. Always remember to let the coats dry before applying another coat.

6. Using a paint roller or a compressor is suggested for painting a minimum of two coats of superior quality latex paint. It won’t be advisable to use cheaper paints as it would not bring the desired results.)

7. Its time for the world of imagination to take over!! You can create your own designs, styles or patterns of your choice like faux tiles, faux stones or a faux yellow brick road. Once completed, allow the paint to dry completely.

8. Apply twin coats of Break through sealer with a 1/4" nap roller and let it dry. Using a respirator mask is advisable. This presents you with a well colored, durable and an amazing floor. To make the place look cozy, you can consider laying down soft rugs as the floors might be cold during the winter season.
