Summary: Painting is an instant therapy to provide life to dead and ugly objects. If you wish to brighten your dark and worn out cabinets, you can use bright colored paints to do so. However, it is not recommended in case of laminated or melamine cabinets, as paints are not compatible to this surface type.

You can use 4 inched or 6 inched foam rollers to paint the face-frame cabinets quickly and efficiently. It is highly recommended to choose Satin Enamel paints as they cover the surfaces nicely and are easy to clean.

Always remember to remove all the screws, door-knobs, hinges and pulls which you are planning to use again. Move all content from the drawers and pull them out of the framework before painting. All the exposed parts should be cleaned with TSP (tri-sodium phosphate).

After this, rinse thoroughly with water and let it dry. Also if there are holes or cracks fill them with putty and allow drying. Use a 150-grit open-coat sandpaper and use a vacuum cleaner to clean any leftover sanding grit or dust.

Cover all other nearby objects and surfaces to save it from the paint. Always follow the directions for painting, i.e. first paint the face-frames, then the inner sides of the doors, the drawer fronts and then the face of the door. In case you are not satisfied with a single coat and want to apply another coat of paint, first let the paint dry overnight. Sand again using a 220-grit wet/dry sandpaper, and vacuum thoroughly before applying the paint.

1.  Cover all other nearby objects and surfaces to save it from the paint and to protect the countertops and floors. Always start to paint the face-frames first and then concentrate on the doors and the drawers.

2.  Once completed, begin painting the inner sides of the doors and whilst they dry, paint the drawer fronts. After this, move towards painting the door front.

3. When the paint dries, re-install the drawers and then attach the doors. With care, mark the places on the door and drill holes to fix the hinges, and once complete re-install the pulls.
