There are different terms used for different kinds of carpeting in the particular industry, for example, carpets for wall-to wall carpeting are referred to as “broadloom carpet”, whereas rugs and carpets which are over six feet by nine feet are commonly known as a “broadloom”, which is a term referring to the looms used to extra sized rugs. In present times, the broadlooms are normally twelve feet wide.

The carpet’s appearance and durability is based on the type of fibers used for its face yarn during its production. Most of the modern carpets are produced using synthetic fibers (97%), though a few yarns use wool too. In some cases the wool and the acrylic are combined together to make a yarn.
