How to repair a large ceiling hole

1) You’ll need to get some pegboard and make sure that this can fit into the hole.

2) As pegboard already come with holes in it you can loop about 6 inches of wire through the holes twisting the ends so you have a complete loop.3

3) Put some drywall compound onto pegboard.

4) Now you simply place the pegboard into the hole, but make sure the side you have covered with drywall compound is facing downwards.

5) Now simply pull the wire loop insert using a pencil and use this to wind up the wire by twisting.  This should pull the pegboard into place.

6) You will need to allow time for compound to dry, once this is done remove the pencil and cut the wires.

7) Next up is quite simple fill the hole with a couple of coats of dry wall compound, make sure that the first coat is dry before you apply a second.

8) Once the second coat is dry you can apply a third coat but this should be flushed with the ceiling.  It may take up to a day to dry.

9) Once this is done simply use some a fine sandpaper to make sure the surface is smooth. You'll need to paint this area of the ceiling and hopefully this will match perfectly.
