Summary: Another important part to be considered in the deck is its flashing. It is important to remember that the metal type used in the deck lashing is similar to the metals, which have been used in the preservatives applied in the wooden decking.

Question - I am planning to build a deck in the backside of the house, however, I have noticed that heavy metals have gained a lot of popularity for being used in the wood, which increases the resistance towards rotting of the lumber. Please suggest me which is the best metal which I can use for flashing behind the house siding, above and by the rim joists? As I understand, this would prevent rainwater to get behind the sidings and joist connectors, and as a result prevent any possibilities of corrosion. Please let me know your suggestions for this purpose and also from where can I get such products?

Answer - the most recommended metal for this purpose would be copper, which can be purchased from a store selling roofing products. These are available in forms of rolls of sheet copper and can be used for all types of flashings and window panes.

Copper is quite compatible with the chemicals present in the treated wood and hence demonstrates high performance. Also the chemicals available in form of liquids in the wood possess high content of copper. Altogether copper is quite convenient to work with and can be easily soldered, in case internal or external corners or joints are to be created.
