Owing to their exposure to the weather and harsh climatic conditions at times, the door may often look shabby and aged before accomplishing their life span. The maximum numbers of doors are wooden, as it presents a feeling of warmth and nature that most people like, but wood is one of the most vulnerable materials too. With passing years, as the wood faces the blow of the sun and the rain, it tends to get cracked, warped and in some case bended too, as the ultra-violet rays of the sun dries the wood completely and the moisture continuously keeps on reducing resulting in making the wood look old and dried.

But, in the recent years, with the changing trends, the front doors have also changed. People now have endless number of options to choose from when they plan to install a new front door. Varying from the traditional wooden doors to latest technology doors of steel and fiberglass composites, which are available in a wide variety of sizes and types, the front doors, can be chosen as per your liking and requirement.

If you are not looking for replacing only the door frame or the panel, you can consider purchasing the complete “entry system”. In this system, you will find the door pre-attached to the frame with hinges and locks along with it. Also interlocks and weather stripping encircle the perimeter of the door in this system. You can also opt for side-lights on the door in the “entry system”, which comes attached with the entire necessary components, machined and designed t function reliably and also ensuring energy efficiency.

Unlike the doors in the past, when any difference in used material was noticeable, the difference is now not easily visible. When we talk about a wood door, it doesn’t necessarily be a complete wooden door these days. A lot of doors are available where the frame might be steel but the door is wooden and vice versa. Similarly, fiberglass or steel door may have a wooden framework, and any of these can also accommodate foam insulation.

Even then, considering the doors according to their primary material is better for understanding the concept. The front door’s cost appearance, security and durability may depend on a lot of factors like the choice of the surface material, which may be steel, fiberglass or wood.

No matter what material they are made up of, all the doors can be referred to as ‘paneled’ or ‘flush’ doors. The flush doors are the ones which are smooth and flat on both the sides of the door. Paneled doors are the ones which have rectangular openings, framed by vertical stiles and horizontal rails.

This type of designs in the doors started originally for the wood doors to reduce the cracks and warps they develop over a period of time. This happens so because the rectangular recesses give sufficient space to the wood to contract or expand with the moisture changes. This can of construction can be observed in doors which have windows in them.
