Summary: Like every other object, the lighting fixtures too have a life span. With time they grow old and outdated. And when they start troubling you and demand repairs, its time to say goodbye to them, as replacing them is always a better and less expensive method.

The best part is that replacing such fixtures is a simple job

Always remember to turn off the main power supply of the house before you start replacing any of the fixtures. This doesn’t completely ensure that there is current in the wires in the ceiling box, so always be careful.

Use a current tester to make sure there are no live wires before touching them.

Take out the bulb and unscrew the nuts, which hold the fixture in place. This would give you access to the exposed wires.

Remove the wire-nuts carefully without touching the bare wires.

Check them for any current or live wires with the tester before removing the fixture completely.

You can now replace the old fixture with the new one. Remember to go through the instructions provided along with the fixture by the producer. Normally removing half an inch of wire insulation is sufficient. Connect the wires of the same color and twist them tightly using the wire nuts.

Some of the fixtures may also require connecting the grounding screw to the grounding wire.
