Bathroom Sink Drain Is Blocked



Summary: There is noting worst then having a clogged drain and here we have the most common recommended way to clear this issue.

First - You'll need a plunger - make sure that the suction cup covers the drain opening, no point in having one that's simply to small.

a) Fill up the clogged sink with water and just enough to cover the plunger.

b) Its always good to cost the rim of the plunger cup with some petroleum jelly this will help to help to seal the drain very tightly.

c) Any other outlets on the sink will need to be blocked as best you can. Try using a wet rag to block these.

d) Once you have a tight seal you'll need to try about 20 strokes to try clear the blockage.

e) If this dose not clear the blocked drain the first time make sure you try a number of times before trying any other solution.

Second - If the drain is complete blocked don’t use any type of chemicals. if the chemicals don’t shift the blockage you'll be stuck with a blocked drain and chemicals that could burn the skin.

a) Make sure you wear rubber gloves

b) Open any windows to make sure the room is well ventilated

c) Do not mix chemicals and make sure to read the labels you'll be looking for a alkali that will help remove the blockage of soap, hair and anything else.

d) Do not look into the drain as some chemicals can give off toxic fumes.

Third - If your going to use a drain auger make sure you remove any filters or stops. (A plumber's snake, sometimes known as a "toilet jack" or "electric eel")

a) Take your time using this, some people rush when using a snake but just work patiently around bends in the piping.

b) When you find the blockage pull the drain auger back a little bit and try to push the or pull the clog out.

c) Sometime if this is not working try using the drain auger through the sink system cleanout.

If you have a deep clog you may need to remove the sink trap. This is easily done by unscrew the couplings (watch out for any water that maybe in the sink). Use the drain auger and work through the piping to clear the blockage.

If you are still not 100% sure how to do this you may need to call in the experts. But if it's a simple clog these tips should save you some money.
