My Faucet Still Drips

Summary: Some quick tips on what to do to fix a dripping faucet, because we use these so much you will at some stage need to replace some part that are simple worn out.

We use faucets every single day that at some point it might start leaking, in fact we use them so much it's no wonder they leak. If you're looking to replace a faucet it's a really easy task.

Because of the pressure washers and seals are under they can of course wear out. You have noticed this is so when you see dripping, which can corrode fixtures and put a stain around sink bowls or bathtubs.

You can get different type of faucets some are washerless like disc, cartridge and ball faucets. These type are not prone to any type of dripping, these are sealed using O-rings which can ware out but will leak at the base of your faucet and not at the spout.

Leaking in a disk faucet usually happens when the inlet and outlet seals are worn out, leaking can also occur if sediment builds up on the inlet. If you need to replace the seal make sure you turn off the shutoff valve and replace with a duplicate seal.

Cartridge faucets can leak if the O-ring breaks or simply worn down.  If you find that you get dripping the cartridge will need replacing.  Make sure you replace a match of the original.

Ball faucets can drip is the intellect seals wear due to the O-rings wearing or breaking.  Sometimes you will find that metal leaks if you tighten the adjusting ring when it is to handle of the assembly this can sometimes fix this issue.  If the handle on the faucet continues to leak replace the cap. I've come across cases where the spout drips all you need to do is replace the inlet seals and springs.

If you have any compression faucet that's leaking from the handle tighten the packing nut or is needed replace the packing. The packing can be a washer, an O-ring, or twine wound around the compression stem.

If you find you have dripping from your faucet don't torque down on to try stop the drip, this is something I have done the past but in the end will just damage faucet. Instead of doing this replace the washers are seals that seemed to be leaking, sometimes getting parts for older faucets can be a little issue and you maybe to consider replacing it with a newer high quality model.
