Summary: At some stage we have all come across issue with toilets, leaking, not flushing, overflowing, blocked and clogged drains and some of the not so present things. Some of these issues can easily be fixed with some tips and easy to spot thing if you know what to look for.
Toilet mechanisms are really simple, but sometimes they do break. It's happened to me a number of times where I have watched a toilet bowl fill up to the top and overflow onto the floor. Usually this overflow is caused by a blockage in the drain, you can clear this using a toilet auget or a plunger.
Sometimes toilets will fill with a noisy high-pitched whistling or whine. This can be a result of a defective inlet valve assembly or even shut off valve is not closing.
Sometimes the issue can be a cause by the float arm, this may not be rising high enough. It could be to football I've seen it with these can become waterlogged. Check tank stopper and make sure this sits in the valve properly.
Sometimes a broken link with the handle and a trip of the other can cause an inadequate flush, also make sure that the tank stopper is not closing for tank empties.
During the summer months when it's warm tank sweating can occur, this can encourage mildew, which can lead to lasting sub flooring. If the tank water is cooler than the ambient air the moisture can cause the tank to sweat. Make sure that you think is insulated correctly is not you can go to your local DIY store and pick up some lining of foam rubber or polystyrene.
A simple test to see if your tank is sweating or leaking is to drop some food coloring into the tank water, come back online later and check with a white tissue the outside of the tank see it going is on the bolts by dabbing the tissue.
