Summary: The wooden floorings are produced by applying a hardwood layer over a plywood plank. Such floorings present the natural look of wood and are simpler to install in comparison to the hardwood floors. These are available in a wide variety of wooden species and stains.

In case you are planning to install this flooring, the sub-floor does not have to be smooth, flat or strong, as is case of other flooring types, which are normally stapled to the sub-floor or have an underlining of foam. You can consider cutting the strips with a power saw. The engineered flooring can be sanded only once and is available in a polyurethane finish.

Hardwood floors: Solid-wood flooring

This well known flooring type can be attained in different lengths with tongue-and-groove edges, which are tightly fitted together. It has a series of different kinds of woods which can be found in varied sizes, like the oak strips which are 3/4 inch thick and 21/4 inches wide and Maple, which is one and a half inches wide.

In case you are planning to install this flooring, the sub-floor does not have to be smooth, flat or strong, as is case of other flooring types. In these kinds of floorings, the strips are usually secured to the sub-floor with a nailer or stapler. After installation, do remember to sand the floor and seal with minimum two coats of wax or polyurethane.  Some hardwood floorings which are solid may be sanded up to 3 times.
