Summary: Problems are common in any flooring you install. The best floorings can also face problems. In comparison to other floorings, wood is prone to more scratches. Squeaks can cause a lot of damage to the flooring structure and is the major problem in comparison to small damages to the flooring surface.

These scratches and gouges on the flooring surfaces cannot be easily avoided, as the flooring faces frequent wears and tears. Similarly, you cannot simply stop the wood from expanding or contracting, which is caused by changes in the moisture levels, resulting in varying temperature and humidity. This process can also cause cracking, warping and even loosening of the floor boards.

House settling is also a natural phenomenon and may create differences in the sub-floor and the joists.
In case you observe too much of sagging or uneven flooring, it is best to consult a professional, as this might be caused due to structural dislocations.

For maintenance of wood flooring, it is suggested to vacuum or dry-mop the floors at least once every week. If the floor has been polyurethane finished, do not wax it, as it may not be possible to re-coat it and sanding would have to be done prior to re-coating the flooring.
