Traditional wood floors are available in three types

* Strip floors: The boards are available in various lengths and widths of 1 1/2, 2, 2 1/4, and 3 1/4 inches.

* Plank floors: The boards are available in different lengths and widths, which are usually 3, 5, and 7 inches.

* Parquet floors: This involves arranging of small pieces of wood into patterns which are usually 12 inches in size.

Pine and fir are superior quality wood used for producing floorings. Other hardwood floorings comprise of wood from maple, white oak, birch or beech trees

Another option to solid wood flooring is laminated wood flooring, as it is cheaper, because in this case a thin layered hardwood is secured to cheap wood. Also because it is already finished, the installation becomes quite simple. Also because of the fact that the laminated flooring comprise of various layers, they are less prone to expanding and contracting with the changing moisture. The only drawback is that like solid flooring, the laminated floor cannot be finished again or even sanded.
